Human Capacity Development

Human Capital Development:

The objective of the HCD department is to broker partnerships amongst various stakeholders so as to develop entrepreneurs and cutting-edge technologies to address national imperatives.

This includes

    • Building a growing pool of scientists with business knowledge and technical skills
    • Increasing the number of bioentrepreneurs
    • Supporting targeted skills development in BioPAD investments
    • Ensuring successful commercialisation of biotechnologies/Maximising new business venture success
    •  Creating jobs and impacting on economic growth and social development

Human Capacity Development Programmes

1. Internship Program


The aim of the internship program is to expose science graduates and researchers to the business environment and gains hands-on experience, developing their basic business skills and providing technical training. The internship is a 12 month program, and includes work and industry experience within a host company and the following business development courses.

    • Bio/Entrepreneurship Course (Certificated)
    • Biomentorship
    • Basic Business Skills Training Course
    • Basic Soft Skills Training Course
    • Technical Skills Training Course
2. Investments/Companies Biomentorship Program

The aim of this initiative is to support new venture companies, through full business analysis and mentorship to identify and resolve problems to increase venture success. The program consists of:

    • Full Business Evaluation
    • Management Training Program
    • Management Mentorship Program
    • Staff Development Program
3. Scholarship/Sponsorship Program

The aim of this program is to further the education of students, young scientists and researchers, to stimulate innovative thinking and new business and technology development. This will be achieved through further education, workshops and conference sponsorships and sponsorship of industry entrepreneurship events.


4. Partnerships and Collaborations

This will consist of

    • Networking events for skills transfer and sharing of experiences
    • Facilitating 2-way beneficial partnerships with industry to support learnership/internship programs
    • Facilitating with industry process to identify technical skills gaps and partner to develop programs and processes to fill gaps.

    • Intern/Entrepreneurship Day
    • Director’s Day
    • Industry Partnership Networking events
    • Entrepreneurship Events
    • Competition Awards
